| The mission of the National Association of Hearing Officials is to improve the administrative hearing process and thereby benefit hearing officials, their employing agencies and the individuals they serve through promoting professionalism and by providing training continuing education, a national forum for discussion of issues, and leadership concerning administrative hearings. |
Who are we? • The National Association of Hearing Officials (NAHO) is an organization committed to provide a forum at national, state, and regional levels for training and discussion of matters pertaining to administrative hearings. Membership in NAHO includes both attorney and non-attorney hearing officials, managers, administrative law judges, and others interested in promoting standards of excellence and fairness in the administrative law process.
Membership. • Annual dues are $50 payable to APHSA. For additional information, contact D’Laine Hagan, CHO, Secretary (See Board of Directors below), or Travis Benford, CHO, Membership Co-Chair.
Certification. • NAHO has a certification program available for all hearing officials. Course requirements for certification ensure that individuals have a sound background in administrative law and hearing procedures. Certified Hearing Officials (CHO) and Certified Administrative Law Judges (CALJ) are recognized during the annual conference and some states have implemented salary incentives to hearing officials certified by NAHO. For additional information, contact Andy Klein, CHO, Certification Chair.
Library. • To assist those seeking certification, but unable to attend conferences, or for staff development purposes, NAHO has established a video library available to NAHO members.
National Conference. • Conferences are held annually throughout the United States. Course subjects range from basic to advanced to meet the training needs of new hearing officials as well as more experienced ALJs. NAHO conference planners ensure that a variety of workshops are taught concurrently. This format provides conference participants with a wide choice of seminars at each training segment that will meet certification requirements. The diverse background and experience of participants provides a rich learning experience in the classroom and offers many opportunities for networking during conferences.
