Twelve-term Arizona Democrat Raúl Grijalva, 77, died on Thursday due to complications from cancer treatments.
The U.S. Representative was the chairman of the House Natural Resources Committee when then-APWA President Keith Pugh testified two years ago about proposed reforms to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
A community activist, school board member, and former Pima County Board of Supervisor, Grijalva, as a U.S. lawmaker, cowrote legislation for the National Landscape Conservation System Act and the Federal Lands Restoration Act.
“I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Congressman Grijalva, a true public servant with a passion and love for the Natural Resources Committee. Raúl had respect for and a sincere commitment to the Americans we serve,” House Committee on Natural Resources Chairman Bruce Westerman (R-Ark.) said.
APWA members and staff extend their condolences to the family, friends, colleagues, staff, and constituents of U.S. Representative Raúl Grijalva.
