In response to the devastating flooding along the Guadalupe River in Texas and in Litchfield, South Carolina extending into North Carolina, APWA offers its deepest sympathy and unwavering support to all those affected by this weekend’s events.
“As we assess the damage and begin the recovery process, our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones, homes, and possessions,” said APWA CEO Scott D. Grayson, CAE. “Public works professionals—especially those on the ground in Texas, South Carolina, and North Carolina—are working around the clock to ensure that emergency services reach those in need, that roads and bridges are cleared and restored, and that essential resources like water and power are returned as quickly and safely as possible.”
APWA President Dominick Longobardi added, “Natural disasters can strike with little warning and leave widespread destruction in their wake. The resilience and steadfast dedication of public works teams in Texas, South Carolina, and North Carolina are essential in responding to this crisis. From debris removal to flood mitigation, from restoring infrastructure to advising on long-term solutions, these teams are at the forefront of ensuring community safety and resilience.”
APWA is communicating with local chapters and public works directors to assess needs.
“We urge residents to follow local advisories and stay informed,” Longobardi said. “Recovery will be a marathon, not a sprint, and our collective solidarity and planning will define our success. While nothing can replace the family, friends, and neighbors we have lost, the love and care we show for those impacted and for each other can help these recovery efforts.”
Call to Action
If you are a public works professional in an affected area and can offer support or need assistance, please let us know.
“We stand together in this time of need,” Grayson said. “To those impacted, you are not alone—public works will be with you every step of the way.”
