U.S. Rep. Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), who served on the U.S. House Committee on Transportation & Infrastructure and was involved in federal policy affecting transportation systems, water resources, and public works, has died.

First elected to Congress in 2012, Rep. LaMalfa, 65, represented California’s 1st Congressional District, a largely rural region in Northern California. During his tenure, he advocated for infrastructure investments important to rural and agricultural communities, including highways and bridges, water storage and conveyance, flood control, and wildfire mitigation.

In 2022, his Preventing Disaster Revictimization Act, H.R. 539, was signed into law to prevent clawbacks of duplicative disaster aid. He also supported streamlining the permitting process for water infrastructure.

APWA extends its condolences to his family, colleagues, and constituents, and recognizes his service to the nation and his involvement in federal infrastructure policy.
