APWA Past President Larry Thomas Koehle, PEng, MPA, passed away on December 23, 2025, in Welland, Ontario, from a glioblastoma tumor. Born in 1945, he was the former Commissioner of Works and Transportation and City Engineer for the City of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, before retiring in 2013. Upon retiring, Koehle spent his winters in Weeki Wachee, Florida, where he golfed and enjoyed warmer weather.
Koehle was a longtime active APWA member who served as president in 2009–2010, the third Canadian to serve in this role. He held leadership positions at both the chapter and national levels of APWA, including serving as the Ontario Chapter President, Chapter Delegate, and Chair of the House of Delegates. Before his term as national president, he also served on the Nominating Committee, Awards Committee, Audit Committee, House of Delegates Executive Committee (Chair 1999–2000), Membership Committee (Chair 2006–2007), and the Finance Committee (Chair, 2007–2008). Koehle received the Ontario Chapter’s Long Service Award for his 31 years of significant service to the chapter. He was also a Past President and Paul Harris Fellow for the Rotary Club of Brampton.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Nancy (Porteous), and six children and stepchildren, four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
