APWA Past President Noel C. Thompson passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born in 1947, he spent 33 years in public service, 22 of them with the City of Louisville, where he retired in 2003 as Executive Administrator. He followed his public service career as a consultant, providing event planning, special project coordination, and executive services.
A long-time APWA member, Thompson held all of the elective officer positions of the APWA Kentucky Chapter and its Central Branch. He was also active nationally, serving as APWA President (2008–09), co-chairing the Congress Host Committee (2000–01), chairing the Congress (now known as PWX) Program Review Committee (2001–02), as a member of the International Affairs Committee (2002–04) and the Finance Committee (2005–06), and as the Chapter Delegate (2000–04).
Besides his APWA service, he was a past president of the Buechel/Fern Creek Jaycees, a member of the Bonnycastle Club, and a Kentucky Colonel.
He is survived by his wife, Sue House, and three children, seven grandchildren, and five of his seven siblings.
