KANSAS CITY, MO The American Public Works Association (APWA) received two prestigious Gold Awards in the nonprofit sector for its 2025 brand video, Public Works: A Kid’s Perspective. The MarCom and Viddy Awards—two sought-after honors in marketing, communications, and video storytelling—celebrated APWA’s creativity and impact by selecting its work from thousands of global entries spanning dozens of countries.

Public Works: A Kid’s Perspective was a highlight for nearly 7,000 attendees of APWA’s Public Works Expo (PWX), the largest conference for public works professionals, held in August in Chicago. The video shares how children see the everyday heroes who keep our cities safe, clean, and thriving. From building parks to repairing roads, the video showcases their fun and heartfelt answers about what public works is and why it’s important.

“We are deeply honored to see our branding video, Public Works: A Kid’s Perspective, recognized with two gold awards. This recognition affirms the importance of telling our story in a way that resonates with future generations and reminds us that public works touches every part of community life,” said APWA President Vic Bianes, PE.

MarCom is one of the world’s most respected creative competitions, honoring excellence in marketing and communications across more than 300 categories. Winning a MarCom Award means earning peer recognition alongside global agencies, Fortune 500 companies, and top creative professionals. Similarly, the Viddy Awards—among the most coveted in the video industry since 1995—celebrate outstanding video storytelling, recognizing creators from major networks and production companies to freelancers and students whose work sets the standard for excellence.

“Without public works, nothing works. No clean water, no sewers, no showers. No roads, bridges, or bike paths, and no one to clear snow, ice, or storm debris from our streets,” said APWA CEO Scott D. Grayson, CAE. “The kids featured in the video expertly shared the fact that public works touches every part of our daily lives. Through their eyes, they reminded us how essential these services are and that we shouldn’t take them for granted.”
