KANSAS CITY, MO—More than 5,000 public works professionals from North America are expected to gather at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia, September 8–11, 2024, for the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Expo (PWX). This year’s program is set to provide world-class education sessions on the most critical challenges in public works and infrastructure from the public and private sectors, including new strategies in funding and budgeting, career development and workforce solutions, asset management, emerging technologies, stormwater, sustainable practices, emergency preparedness, and planning for livable communities.
“PWX is the largest, most meaningful event of its kind for public works professionals. While here, attendees will be able to see the latest product and service innovations, hear about the latest operational best practices, and plan for the future of public works,” said APWA President Gary Losier, PEng. “At its core, public works is about serving the public. This conference offers us a place to come together to help each other find new, better ways to advance quality of life for all who live in our communities.”
Highlights of this year’s PWX program include:
- Attendees will have the opportunity to visit one-on-one with representatives from nearly 450 exhibiting companies across approximately 250,000 square feet of exhibit hall space on September 8, 9, and 10. This year’s exhibit floor will be the largest in more than 15 years.
- As part of APWA’s Proud to Care Initiative, attendees will have the opportunity to give back to the local community by donating blood to the American Red Cross during the 17th Annual Blood Drive on September 9. They may also adopt a new furry friend by visiting the PW Paws & Friends booth on September 8, 9, and 10. Animals will be coming from LifeLine Animal Project, the largest animal welfare organization in Georgia.
- Attendees may choose from more than 150 education sessions and workshops, presented in several different formats, encompassing a variety of public works topics, from using artificial intelligence to thinking differently about hiring to managing through large-scale weather events.
- General sessions on September 8, 10, and 11 will feature three inspiring storytellers, Pandit Dasa, Nikki Greenberg, and Dr. Bertice Berry. Each will explore timely topics that will resonate with attendees at all levels, including ways to practice mindfulness, embrace future technologies, and live the vision.
“We know that the dedicated people of public works have big challenges to overcome‒sometimes at a moment’s notice,” said APWA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Scott D. Grayson, CAE. “That’s why we’ve packed so many ways to learn, network, and connect into this year’s PWX schedule. We want to send our attendees back to their agencies empowered, inspired, and proud of the work they do.”
