The City of Norman, Oklahoma developed one of the largest alternative vehicle fleets among similar sized Midwest cities and built a compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling facility. In the first 18 months of operation, fuel savings have exceeded expectations and sales of CNG fuel to the general public has doubled expectations.

Learning Objectives:

1.     Determine whether and how to develop an alternative fuel program and a CNG fueling facility.

2.     Convince the City Manager and City Council to pursue an alternative fuel program including a possible CNG fueling facility.

3.     Estimate the cost of design, construction, and operation of an alternative fuel program and CNG fueling facility.
