Pavements fail prematurely due to failures of: design, construction, materials, and maintenance. While performing maintenance is critical, selection of the proper maintenance activity to correct or prevent a problem is as important as doing the work properly. The large variety of possible repair candidates makes choosing the proper repair difficult. Choosing the best maintenance repair is the focus of the session.

Learning Objectives:

1.     Demonstrate how pavements fail in fatigue.

2.     Appraise why a pavement has failed prematurely.

3.     Choose the proper pavement repair category.
