APWA Board of Directors to Meet in DC
- The APWA Board of Directors will be meeting, Feb. 11-12, at APWA’s Washington, D.C. office;
- Prior to its 2-day session, the board will host a reception, Feb. 10, to kick off the second session of the 119th Congress;
- In addition to conducting its regular order of business, the board will meet with key federal agency leaders and Congressional members and staff who have jurisdiction over public works policies and regulations;
- Follow the action through APWA Government Affairs social media on X and LinkedIn.
Department of Homeland Security Funding Ends Feb. 13
- Without congressional action the short-term continuing resolution (CR) for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) ends this Friday;
- DHS FY26 funding is the last remaining appropriations bill Congress needs to pass;
- Congressional leaders are discussing a separate funding package for departments within DHS, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA);
- In addition to FEMA, other entities under DHS that will be impacted if an agreement is not reached, include the Transportation Security Admin., the Coast Guard, and the Secret Service;

FEMA to Host Emergency Management Assistance Compact Course in April
- From April 21 through April 23, FEMA’s National Emergency Training Center (NETC) in Emmitsburg, MD, will host a course, Understanding the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC);
- NETC courses are free to attend, however registration is required;

APWA to Participate in 2026 Future City Competition
- APWA President-Elect Robert Garland, APWA Career and Workforce Development Manager Corrine Watts, and APWA Sr. Government Affairs Manager Marty Williams will serve as judges for the 2026 Future City Competition Finals in Washington, D.C.;
- The competition includes students comprising 42 teams in grades 6-12, representing schools from around the world;
- Students are tasked with creating a city that eliminates food waste from farm-to-table and keeps its citizens healthy and safe;
- APWA is proud to once again participate in this exciting competition.

- Feb. 10, at 2 p.m., the House Energy and Commerce Communications and Technology Subcommittee is holding a hearing to markup H.R. 7386 (119), the First Responder Network Authority Reauthorization Act;
- Feb. 11, at 10 a.m., the House Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee will hold a hearing on Potential DHS Shutdown Impacts;
- Feb. 11 at 2 p.m., the House Science, Space and Technology committee’s Research and Technology Subcommittee will hold a hearing, Accelerating Progress: U.S. Surface Transportation Research.
