APWA Participating in Center for Cross Sector Coordination Symposium
- APWA’s Sr. Government Affairs Manager Marty Willliams will attend the first Cross Sector Coordination (CXC) Symposium in Washington, D.C. this Wednesday, representing APWA as a member of the CXC Advisory Board;
- Along with Nick Andersen, the acting Cybersecurity Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) Director, panel discussions covering the priority challenges for sector owners/operators will be held;
- CXC is working to foster a partnership that is industry-led, cross-sector, and operationally focused with the following goals:
- Creating a strong, communicative network of critical-infrastructure owners and operators across all 16 critical infrastructure sectors
- Connecting security practitioners across the sectors with actionable tools, technologies, and strategies to address their most-complex security and resilience challenges
- CXC will also focus on “Emergency Response and Interdependencies,” and how critical infrastructure owners/operators and utilities are preparing themselves for state and local response based on changes from Executive Order 14239—Achieving Efficiency Through State and Local Preparedness
- Examining what state and local mechanisms require enhancement to address preparedness for incidents such as cyber and severe weather events

FEMA Seeks Preliminary Damage Assessment Requests, Floodproofing Certificates Comments
- The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is seeking comments on Preliminary Damage Assessment Requests, and Floodproofing Certificate;
- The deadline to submit comments for both is July 31.
FEMA Adds New Earthquake Tool
- FEMA has added an Earthquake ShakeMap Model;
- Hazus 7.2 is an upgraded version of its hazard risk assessment desktop software which is used by emergency managers, planners and researchers across the country, providing emergency managers with enhanced risk assessment information and modeling for communities in the U.S.;
- Along with floods and earthquakes, users can now estimate the real-time impacts of earthquakes in ArcGIS Pro’s software environment.
CISA Releases Proposed UAS Drone Rule Fact Sheet
- CISA has released a fact sheet on the proposed Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rule, Designation – Restrict the Operation of Unmanned Aircraft in Close Proximity to a Fixed Site Facility;
- The FAA’s proposed rule establishes a process for operators of certain critical infrastructure to petition the FAA to restrict drone operations over their sites for safety and security reasons;
- The FAA is accepting comments through July 6 and may be submitted through the Federal Register.
DOT Funding Resources
- The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) expires Sept. 30, and funding opportunities remain, so check out the DOT Navigator tool and DOT Competitive Grants dashboard;
- This month, two discretionary grant programs funded through IIJA close for applications:
- The Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements (CRISI) Grant program, with applications due June 25
- The Bridge Investment Program, with applications due June 29
- State and local governments are amongst those eligible to apply for these grants

- June 17 at 9 a.m., the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on nominations, including Cameron Hamilton nominee for administrator of FEMA;
- June 24 at 9 a.m., the Confederation of International Contractors’ Association (CICA) will host a webinar, “Rethinking Project Preparation – The Strategic Role of Contractors in Planning and Design.” Registration information may be found here;
- June 25 at 1 p.m., CISA will host, in-person and online, Celebrating and Safeguarding America’s 250th Anniversary webinar and the focus is on strategies for safeguarding public venues, managing large crowds, ensuring fireworks safety, and practical insights to strengthen preparedness and first-response efforts.
