KANSAS CITY, MO—During the Tuesday General Session at the PWX (Public Works Expo) conference in Houston, the American Public Works Association (APWA) announced the launch of ReliefWorks, a new disaster relief program designed to provide direct assistance to public works professionals and their families when they need it most.
“Public works professionals respond to some of life’s most challenging moments through their role as first responders. We wanted to find a way to serve those who serve,” said APWA President Robert Garland, PE. “ReliefWorks gives us the mechanism to help ensure public works first responders don’t have to face recovery alone.”
When disaster strikes, public works professionals are among the first to answer the call. They clear roads, restore critical infrastructure, support emergency operations, and help communities recover. Often, they do this while facing the same challenges at home, including damage to their property, displacement, and disrupted lives for their families.
Through the reach of APWA chapters, ReliefWorks bridges a critical gap by offering immediate support following federally-declared disasters and other qualifying emergencies. Whether it’s emergency supplies, temporary housing needs, clothing, meals, or other essential assistance, ReliefWorks is here to help those who dedicate themselves to helping others.
