U.S. Rep. David Scott of Georgia, whose work on agriculture, rural development, and federal investment priorities intersected with key public works issues such as water infrastructure and community development, has died.
Scott, 80, a Democrat who represented Georgia’s 13th Congressional District since 2003, served more than two decades in the U.S. House following earlier service in both chambers of the Georgia Legislature.
During his time in Congress, Scott played a leading role in federal agricultural policy, including serving as chair of the House Agriculture Committee from 2021 to 2023 and later as its ranking member. His work often focused on strengthening rural economies, supporting local communities, and advancing federal programs that influence infrastructure investment, land use, and resource management.
His district spanned a large portion of metro Atlanta, including parts of Clayton, DeKalb, Gwinnett, Henry, and Newton counties—communities where federal policy decisions help shape transportation networks, water systems, and overall infrastructure planning.
APWA extends its condolences to Rep. Scott’s family, colleagues, and constituents.
