What is one threat that can impact the health of any organization—whether they are an agency, construction firm, or consultant? Staff turnover and its associated institutional knowledge loss. Having a strong succession strategy that assesses leadership potential and encourages staff development helps employees see they have an opportunity for growth and longevity within any organization. It also makes it easier for agencies to retain and develop their best talent. In this session, the Caltrans Division of Local Assistance (DLA) will share the latest research, training, and best practices for managing staff turnover while retaining the technical and administrative knowledge found within every company. After this session, participants will be able to:
• Assess your agency’s readiness for accommodating talent loss and establish a plan for succession planning.
• Develop strategies and processes to retain institutional knowledge in the wake of staff turnover.
• Implement best management practices to maximize employee retention and maintain a talented pipeline across your organization.
