Currently, heavy duty snow removal equipment utilizes a dual diesel engine configuration to power the powertrain and the snow blower. Kodiak Technologies, Inc. (KT) is a new company that has combined leading electrification technologies with over 40 years of snow blower manufacturing experience of Kodiak Americas. KT is creating a platform technology with the development of green powertrain solutions. There will be three different powertrain solutions based on the same series hybrid vehicle architecture: plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and fuel cell. The plug-in hybrid will use any internal combustion engine as a power source, and is expected to reduce fuel consumption/emissions by 60 percent and reduce maintenance cost by 50 percent. Since this is a plug-in hybrid, this vehicle can be deployed prior to any charging infrastructure deployment (i.e., direct replacement for current diesel variant).   All powertrain versions will be capable of providing the vehicle to grid/load when the vehicle is not needed for snow removal. This would allow for utility cost savings (i.e. peak shaving) or emergency power backup. In addition to the green powertrain operations, KT has a patented sensor to understand the performance of the snow blower. At the end of the session, the audience will understand the various green powertrain options and how to deploy them effectively.
