Scam email falsely representing and using APWA’s name for the North American Snow Conference and PWX

We know that emails are being sent to our customers and members without our permission, offering conference attendee lists or access to discounted hotel rooms. This is an ongoing problem that impacts not only APWA but many conferences, trade shows, and associations.

APWA does not sell member or conference attendee information, and the lists that are offered are bogus. Oftentimes, these fraudulent companies use technology to scan websites to obtain contact information for those they wish to target. Additionally, APWA only offers discounted hotel rooms through our official housing provider, Maritz.

Until recently, we had no recourse. The US Federal Trade Commission was made aware of the widespread scam and has taken action. While it is virtually impossible to track scammers down, APWA does have a means of reporting complaints against them. If you receive any of these types of emails, please report them to APWA.

APWA strongly advises the public to be cautious of these and other similar fraudulent emails that falsely claim association with APWA. Any transfer of personal information or money to those issuing such fraudulent emails can result in identity theft, financial loss, and other damages. APWA shall not be held liable for any claims pertaining to fraudulent schemes, including but not limited to claims resulting from theft, loss, or damage.

We encourage all our members, customers, and conference participants to visit our website, www.apwa.org, to access all the information needed to register and attend our conferences. Information will be posted as it becomes available.
