Dear APWA Members,

The American Public Works Association is deeply saddened by the loss of life in Tuesday’s tragic accident that led to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland.

On behalf of the APWA Board of Directors, members, and staff, we share our condolences with the families and friends of the six workers who died while working in the middle of the night to keep others safe.

Events like this remind us that transportation and safety are fundamentally important to sustaining commerce and ensuring public safety.

We commend the first responders who have been on the scene from the earliest moments providing life-saving measures to minimize the loss of life. The recovery and rebuilding efforts will take time, but public works professionals will be ready to serve in any capacity needed and provide their expertise to those who will be involved in the rebuilding efforts.
