Roadshow Stopping in Massachusetts

  • The Engineering & Public Works Roadshow will visit Worcester, Massachusetts’, newest high school on Tuesday;
  • Doherty Memorial High School is a $316 million, 425,000-square-foot facility that is dedicated to teaching the next wave of public works and engineering professionals;
  • In its first school year, the high school offers four career technical education programs, including Construction Craft Laborer and Engineering Technology;
  • APWA President Dominick Longobardi will emcee the program and APWA Region I Director Rich Benevento will speak, as will others;
  • This event, the Roadshow’s 20th, begins at 10 a.m., June 10, and may be watched live at the Roadshow’s X account;
  • The Roadshow is a nearly 3-year collaboration with the American Council of Engineering Companies, ACEC; and the American Society of Civil Engineers, ASCE.

U.S. DOT Announces Updated Funding Opportunities for Bridge Projects

FEMA Releases Updated National Flood Insurance Program Guidelines

  • The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has released updated National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) documents;
  • The revised documentation includes updates to the following:
  • The updated Flood Insurance Manual will apply to flood insurance policies issued on or after Oct. 1, while the Claims Manual, and the Standard Flood Insurance Policy Commentary will apply to flood insurance claims that occur during the 2025 hurricane season;
  • These changes will not change flood insurance coverage or supersede the terms and conditions of the Standard Flood Insurance Policy.

FY26 Budget Process Continues

  • As a follow up to its FY26 budget request, the White House released a supplemental version detailing funding for specific programs;
  • Important to public works:
    • Additional funding and FTEs to expedite NEPA permitting
    • A $2B reduction in the Drinking Water and Clean Water revolving funds
    • A new grant program to promote cybersecurity in the water sector
    • Defunding of the Water Infrastructure Financing and Innovation Act (WIFIA)
  • Congress will now consider these requests as they develop the FY26 budget.
