The Asset Management Committee (AMC) has fully embraced the philosophy of being an Integrated Strategy Committee and started meeting with several of the technical committees at PWX in 2024 to discuss the format of the Asset Management Roadmap version 2.0. The goal was to hear what challenges the committees are experiencing relating to asset management and make sure that the resources we provide to the membership are aligned with their needs and are presented in a user-friendly format. AMC has diligently been working to build applicable content, reference industry standards, and is brainstorming ways to present the information to the membership through a publication and interactive website.

One of my favorite things we do as a committee is the Happy Hour Jam at PWX, where the committee and APWA members get together and discuss various topics and challenges. The committee will have another Happy Hour Jam at the 2025 PWX, and we look forward to everyone joining us in discussion!

If you want to learn more about the committee, share your knowledge, or get involved, please consider joining the AMC Knowledge Team. Email AMC@apwa.org. If you are active and willing, we will put you to good use!

The Leadership and Management Committee continues the work of developing tomorrow’s public works leaders through research, application, and advocacy of innovative leadership and management best practices.

With an eye on the future of the public works profession, the committee is in the process of creating comprehensive education plans for the areas of leadership, management, and supervision. These education plans will provide public works professionals with the necessary education for these topics as they advance through their careers. In the last year, the committee has collaborated with the Fleet Management Committee, Solid Waste Management Committee, and the Water Resources Management Committee to create public works benchmarking documents.

The Leadership and Management Committee is always looking for knowledge team members to contribute their expertise and perspective to committee projects. If you’re interested in joining, we would love to hear from you at LMC@apwa.org.

As an Integrated Strategy Committee, the Sustainability and Resiliency Committee (SRC) collaborates with and supports the eight Technical Committees. The SRC is working on establishing an online “Learning Library” that will provide key resources to support public works professionals across all sectors to ensure they are meeting the needs of current and future sustainable and resilient communities.

So far, in collaboration with the Water Resources Management Committee, we have completed resources to support green infrastructure, and we are currently working with the Solid Waste Management Committee on a new circular economy component. These collaborations and resources are developed with leadership and input from our committee and knowledge team members. If you are passionate about sustainability and resiliency in public works and are interested in joining our knowledge team, please email SRC@apwa.org.
