More than 31,500 APWA members in the US and Canada use National Public Works Week to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing, and operating at the heart of their local communities to improve everyday quality of life.
History of National Public Works Week
Every year National Public Works Week gets bigger and better. The number of participating municipalities continues to grow, which means the number of citizens who are exposed to the value of public works grows. At APWA one of our strategic goals is to educate the public about the value and necessities of public works projects throughout North America, as well as internationally, and public works professionals like you are our best ambassadors.
Since 1960, APWA has sponsored National Public Works Week. Across North America, our more than 31,000 members in the U.S. and Canada use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of public works to their daily lives: planning, building, managing and operating at the heart of their local communities to improve everyday quality of life.
APWA encourages public works agencies and professionals to take the opportunity to make their stories known in their communities. The National Public Works Week How-To area will be available in early 2024 to assist agencies and communities to develop and create your own individual NPWW celebration. The occasion is marked each year with scores of resolutions and proclamations from mayors and governors, as well.

Promote NPWW!
#NPWW (official) – Make sure to use this on all your National Public Works Week social media posts. By doing so, you’ll join in on all the NPWW discussions being held across all the major social media platforms, and it will make your posts easier for others to find.
#ConnectingTheWorld (supplementary) – If you’re looking to add a little something extra to your post, consider using this secondary hashtag, which is also the 2023 poster theme.
