Kristina “Tina” B. Nelson oversees Region IX as part of her Regional Director role with APWA. This includes the following chapters: Alaska, Alberta, British Columbia, Colorado, Oregon, Rocky Mountain, Saskatchewan, Utah, and Washington State. She also serves as the Board of Directors Liaison to Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA) and as a member of the Finance Committee.
Nelson serves as Senior Program Manager in the Roads Division of the Public Works Department in Kitsap County, Washington, where she is responsible for delivering the Division’s Capital Plan. She oversees a team of 45 professionals, including engineers, surveyors, real estate specialists, and construction managers, that deliver projects “cradle-to-grave.” During her 17 years with the County, she has successfully implemented a program for the Capital Delivery Team that has aligned engagement of all stakeholders and thrives under the motto: “Collaborate-Communicate-Coordinate.” Prior to her time with the County, she spent time in the private sector and 15 years with the City of Tacoma in project delivery and construction management.
Nelson joined APWA and the Washington Chapter in the late 90s and has never turned around, first joining a committee, then serving as committee chair, and then onto the Chapter Board. She currently serves on the chapter’s Construction Standards Committee, as the co-chair of the chapter’s Awards Committee, and on her second term as Region IX Director. Her other involvement over the years includes serving as chapter President (2009); Chapter Projects of the Year Committee Review Team (2011-2018); national delegate, Council of Chapters—chair; Chapter Mentoring Committee (2015-2018); Congress/PWX—Chapter Leader’s Forum—lead/presenter (2015, 2016); International Affairs Committee—Nordic Partnership—secretary (2015-2017); National Nominating Committee (2017); Region IX Nominating Committee (2020); and PWX 2019—Chapter Organizing Committee (2017-2019).
